Construction and renovation works began on the Namugongo Shrine mid this year when it was confirmed that Pope Francis would be visiting Uganda on the 27th November, 2015. New Vision went quickly into fundraising drive by bringing commemorative rosaries from the Vatican and asking individuals and companies to buy each at 100.000 shillings.

In less than 24 hours, CiplaQCIL staff impressively managed to buy 110 rosaries and the proceeds of 11 million shillings were handed over to New Vision CEO, Robert Kabushenga by the Executive Chairman, Emmanuel Katongole at the CipaQCIL offices.

Pope Francis became the third Pope to visit Uganda after Pope Paul VI in 1969 and Pope John Paul II in 1993. He was in the country to mark the 50th anniversary of the canonization of the 22 catholic martyrs that were executed in the 19th Century.
